Overview
Architecture and operation of the cloud estate supporting the business platform — approximately ten interconnected environments spanning compute, data, storage, edge and security services, run as one coherent ecosystem rather than a collection of servers.
Challenge
Infrastructure that grows organically tends to accumulate environments faster than it accumulates structure. The work was to bring a distributed estate under a single architectural model — consistent security posture, predictable operations, clear boundaries between environments — while holding availability high enough that the business never has to think about it.

Lessons
- Availability is mostly the absence of surprises — the architecture that produces it is unglamorous by design.
- Cost optimisation and capability are not opposites; the trade is usually against complexity, not against people.
- Consistency across environments is worth more than optimality in any one of them.
